Adele Takes Manhattan

adele madison square gardenAfter a lot of hemming and hawing, debating and discussion, I pulled the trigger to catch Adele’s final performance at Madison Square Garden with a girlfriend.  My ninja like internet skills even allowed me to get the tickets for much less than initially anticipated.  Surplus immediately added to the Jimmy Choo Velvet Mari Heels shoe fund.

The winged eyeliner alone is enough to consider her a hero, but that voice, those lyrics, and straight up soul, make Adele a certified superstar.  Due to the last minute acquisition and my need to save all pennies for Gianvito Rossi Suede Janis High Sandals, our seats certainly weren’t front and center, but I think anyone in attendance can attest that there was not one bad seat in the house.

Starting off with “Hello” and ending with “Rolling in the Deep,” there was not one moment to sit down and rest my feet, though my Aquazzura Amazon Suede Heels could have used an intermission.  Which led me to wonder, what was Adele wearing on her feet?  There’s no way one woman, unless otherwise known as Beyonce, could spend an evening belting out tunes in Sophia Webster Suede Chaira Platform Heels.  If I had one guess, it had to be a pair or Isabel Marant  Leo Eyelet Velvet Flats.  I guess two things will remain a mystery about Adele: her footwear and how on earth she achieve perfect winged eyeliner every. single. time.

Shoe of the Week: Over the Knee and Through the Woods

Valentino Suede Over The Knee Booties

When it comes to fall footwear, the over the knee boot is a closet staple and also a closet conundrum.  Yes, the scene of Julia Roberts singing Prince’s “Kiss” in Pretty Woman will never grow old, but those over the knee patent leather boots are a little less charming. So, what is the key to pulling off the look?  Subtlety.  A lower stacked heel, or a flat bottom boot is sexy without being startling.  While black is always a wise investment, neutral tones, grey, and even oxblood can be other outstanding options.  The Valentino Suede Over The Knee Booties encompasses all of these things with its covered heel, subtle stitching, and rich texture.  This is much more mega babe than Pretty Woman.

Trendspotting: Let the Boots Do the Talking

miranda-kerr-airport-style

Wouldn’t it be great if you you could rely on one item to pull an entire outfit together?  Sure would take all of the frustration and panic out of those morning closet exercises.  Oh, wait… thanks to this season’s embellished booties, I may have the answer for you.  It’s nearly as basic as elementary school arithmetic.  Jeans + white T + leather jacket + embellished boot = cool girl casual.

Don’t believe me?  Just take a cue from mega babes and style icons Miranda Kerr and Rosie Huntington-Whitely.  From Nicholas Kirkwood to Alexander Wang to Rosetta Getty, this season is all about the the boot.  Forget the walking- these boots were made for talking.

Shoe of the Week: Ballettonet Chelsea Boot

screen-shot-2016-10-04-at-7-24-31-pm

Ah, September equinox has come and gone.  And with it, it’s left us with cooler temperatures and good reason not to shave our legs (hint: pants).  With it, however, we’ve been left in a state of confusion when it comes to clothing ourselves.  We’re stuck debating whether something is hashtag too soon or just holding on to a feeling.  No one wants to be the girl wearing her winter coat on the first day of school, nor do we want to be the girl clinging to a croptop and a dream.

And this doesn’t just fall under the category of clothing.  One must take into account her footwear.  Sandals seem to be desperate and tall boots just appear a bit Pretty Woman as early as October 1st.

What is the only alternative?  The perfect booties.  Namely, the Chelsea Boot by Ballettonet.  A simple, yet sophisticated flat bootie designed in collaboration with Jasmin Howell (you may know her as Friend In Fashion), this shoe can easily transition from day– with a perfectly distressed pair of denim trousers, to evening– with the most conscious of bodycon dresses.  Dressed up or dressed down, high shine or matte sophistication, this boot will impress if not not only for its design details but for the fact that it’s a limited edition piece- only 100 pairs made entirely in Italy by the Baccaro family in each style.

Fall Trends: Velvet Underground

velvet-street-style-fall-16

Cuffing season is upon us.  And if you’re like me and haven’t found a suitable suitor to keep you warm on those chilly fall evenings, you’re going to need to resort to alternative sources of heat.  Yes, there’s cashmere and corduroy (which made a surprising comeback), but this fall’s front runner is another 90’s throwback: velvet.  And every “it” girl, model, or digital influencer has been seen sporting some form of the fabric- from crushed velvet body suits to the covetable Phillip Lim Kyoto boot.  Mostly seen in jewel tones, there’s a shape and silhouette for every body to incorporate into their fall wardrobes from velvet booties to slinky slip dresses.  Below are a few of my favorites.

Mercury in RetroGrace

12f1edbf927ce422dc89284c69a246f2

I’m looking at my calendar, which I am fanatical about, and I’m specifically staring at the date with a big red star drawn on it.  This is not marking a major deadline or even a hot date, it’s the day that my life will settle down and stop throwing me one crazy curve ball after the next.  This is the day that Mercury goes out of Retrograde.

I know, I know.  I can actually hear some of your eyes rolling.  But for all of those who doubt the power of Mercury in Retrograde, I know there’s an equal balance of you saying, “Mmmhmm.  Me too.”  I’m not some crazy person who bases her schedule around the stars and heaven knows I’ve dated many men whose astrological signs were sure to clash with my own, but I’ve been known to skim the back of Harper’s Bazaar to see what the stars say about the month ahead and I may own a handful of crystal and quartz.  The thing with Mercury is that it has a major impact on communication, which can, in turn, start messing with all aspects of your life from work to finances to friends.  A brief recap of my time spent in retrograde?  Oh yes, I kept account:

  • After months negotiating with an important client, we finally signed off on a contract.  Two days later, their company went bankrupt and announced they’d no longer be needing my services.  There goes all the money I’d been planning to spend on a new pair of Rag & Bone Agnes Boots.
  • The greatest fear of all New Yorkers (other than flying cockroaches): your building getting sold.  My landlord gave us notice that we’d be needing to vacate in the next three months, so I spent the last month scouring the city for another apartment with a closet large enough to house my shoe collection.  Last week, my landlord informed us: false alarm.
  • A stickler for keeping my things pristine, I’ve prided myself on having never cracked an iPhone in the many reiterations from 4s to 6Plus.  As I juggled my iced coffee, Smythson notepad, and cellphone, teetering across Smile To Go in my RAYE Beatrix Heels, I made eyes at the cute barista when some clumsy oaf screaming into his bluetooth (who still wears those?) rammed into me harder than a linebacker during his first pre-season game.  What went toppling to the floor?  Not my iced coffee of course.  RIP iPhone 6Plus.
  • Five blissful months with my beau and one evening after a seemingly cozy fall feeling evening, we strolled home with ice cream from Van Leeuwen in hand, Common Projects Achilles Three Strap Sneakers on my feet, when he decided to drop the bomb that he’d started seeing someone else and hoped we could continue seeing each other as well.  I held onto my scoop of mint chocolate chip and ditched the drip.
  • And if all that wasn’t enough, on my way to a meeting this week, I was feeling quite confident and collected sauntering into the office with my proposal in my freshly manicured hands until I nearly face planted on the conference table as my Pura Lopez Cutout Heels  heeled snapped off.  I decided to make the best of a bad situation and used the heel as a pointer for my presentation.

I know, it’s a miracle I’m still standing- let alone able to complete a full grammatically correct sentence, but here I am like a beacon of light in my Balmain Embellished Heels.  And if you still think I sound like a wackadoo or you just want more info, Susan Miller does a wonderful job explaining it all right here.

Hang in there guys.  I think Drake said it best, “Just hold on, we’re going home.”

P.S. This webpage crashed exactly three times during my writing of this post, causing me to have to re-write it just as many times.

With a little help from our friends. Meet Grace.

When we opened our office in New York City in 2014 following New York Fashion Week in September, we knew that the team at Save Your Sole was going to be busy in the city that never sleeps.

Over those two years, we have been involved in every New York Fashion Week working with designers, stylists and dressers from Oscar de la Renta to Calvin Klein to Project Runway and Opening Ceremony. In our first NYFW, we worked with over 30 designers with our Sole Stickers to protect the shoes in the shows and keep the models on their feet.
